Illawarra — city and inner suburbs
Preparing a home for sale in Wollongong.
Wollongong's inner suburbs sell to the widest mix of buyers in the Illawarra: first-home buyers and investors around the university and hospital, families in Keiraville and Mangerton, and downsizers looking for a walkable unit near the city and the beach. That mix cuts both ways — there is always demand, but buyers have plenty to compare against, so a home that presents a rung below its neighbours gets discounted quickly.
Our project managers work across these suburbs every week. The pattern is consistent: the homes that sell at the top of their street are rarely the most renovated, they are the ones with nothing for a buyer to worry about.

The housing stock
What we usually find in Wollongong
- Interwar and post-war homes on the flat between the escarpment and the beach, many with extensions of varying quality added over the decades.
- 1960s–70s brick homes on the slopes of Keiraville, Mangerton and Mount Saint Thomas, often with original kitchens and bathrooms and good bones.
- A large unit and townhouse stock around the CBD and North Wollongong, where presentation and strata condition drive the price more than size.
- Investor-owned homes near the university that come to market after years of tenancy and need a reset rather than a renovation.

What tends to pay back before a sale here
Every Uplifta plan is built for the specific property after an onsite review. These are the patterns we see most often across Wollongong — not a prescription.
Remove the doubts first
Damp, cracked render, tired fascias and a roof that hasn't been looked at in years are the things Wollongong buyers' building inspectors flag. Fixing them before the campaign stops the report becoming a renegotiation.
Paint and light do most of the work
In older inner-suburb homes a full interior repaint, updated light fittings and a tidy of the original timber floors typically shift buyer perception more than any single trade.
Make the outdoor space read as usable
Many inner-suburb blocks are compact. A cleared, levelled and simply planted yard photographs as a room; a cluttered one photographs as a job.
Units: presentation over renovation
For apartments near the city and beach, styling, a deep clean and cosmetic fixes usually out-perform a kitchen replacement on return.
Questions from Wollongong sellers
Do you work on units and townhouses in Wollongong, or only houses?
Both. Around a third of the inner-suburb work we look at is strata. The scope is usually smaller — paint, floors, fixtures, styling — and the timeline shorter.
How quickly can someone look at my Wollongong property?
We respond within one business day and arrange the onsite visit around your timing. We aim to have the Sale Gap assessment and plan back to you within a few days of the visit.
Will you work with my agent?
Yes. Most of our Wollongong work is referred by agents, and we plan every project against the listing date they set.
